DocuSense — Privacy Policy

DocuSense ("the app", "we", "us") is operated by Ruben Pretorius. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using DocuSense you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

You photograph or upload documents. To explain them, the document image is sent to Google's Gemini AI. That is the core function of the app.
Your explained documents and chat are stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
We use Firebase for sign-in and to count your free monthly usage, and RevenueCat + Google Play to manage subscriptions.
We do not sell your personal information.
DocuSense explanations are informational only — not legal, medical, or financial advice.

Information we collect

1. Documents you submit

When you capture or upload a document (image or PDF), the app:

Sends the document image to Google's Generative AI (Gemini) to produce the explanation, key points, risk flags, and answers to your follow-up questions.
Stores the document image and the generated explanation locally on your device (in the app's private storage) so you can revisit it in History. This local data is not uploaded to any server we control.

Documents may contain sensitive personal information (e.g. names, addresses, financial, medical, or legal details). Only submit documents you are comfortable processing through a third-party AI service. See "Third-party services" below.

2. Account information

On first launch we create an anonymous account (a random identifier via Firebase Authentication) so your usage can be tracked without you signing in.
If you choose Sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account to identify you and keep your subscription across devices.

3. Usage and subscription data

A monthly count of how many documents you've explained, stored in Firebase Firestore against your account identifier, to enforce free-tier limits.
Your subscription status (free or premium, plan, renewal/expiry), managed by RevenueCat and Google Play Billing.

4. Technical and diagnostic data

The third-party SDKs we use (Firebase, RevenueCat) may collect standard technical data such as device model, OS version, app version, and service identifiers to operate and secure the service.

How we use information

To analyse and explain your documents (the core feature).
To maintain your free-tier usage limit and your subscription entitlement.
To authenticate you and sync Premium across your devices.
To maintain, secure, and improve the app and diagnose problems.

We do not use your document contents for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

About AI processing of your documents: document images are sent to Google to generate your explanation. DocuSense uses Google's paid Gemini API tier. Under Google's paid-tier API terms, your prompts and the documents you submit are not used to train Google's models. Google may retain data transiently for abuse-monitoring and to provide the service, as described in Google's API terms linked above.

Where your data lives

On your device: document images, generated explanations, and chat history (in the app's private storage, via a local database). Uninstalling the app deletes this data.
In the cloud: your account identifier, monthly usage count (Firebase), and subscription status (RevenueCat / Google Play).

Data retention and deletion

Delete a document: swipe to delete any item in History, which removes its image, explanation, and chat from your device.
Delete all local data: uninstall the app.
Delete your account and cloud data (usage/subscription records): contact us at rubenpretorius7@gmail.com and we will delete the records associated with your account identifier. Subscription/transaction records required for tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention may be retained as required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact rubenpretorius7@gmail.com. We do not sell personal information.

Children

DocuSense is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including transport encryption to our third-party services and storing documents in app-private storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

DocuSense uses AI to summarize documents in plain language. Its output may be incomplete or incorrect and is provided for general information only. It is not legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Always consult a qualified professional before making decisions based on a document.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
